Vampire Feast

Tonight is the premiere of Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. It’s the end of an era. I’m no expert on Twilight. To be honest, they’re a bit young for me. I sing all due praises for Stephenie Meyer though. She’s done an amazing job bringing the genre to a whole new audience. But for me, Edward’s just too safe.

I love that about this genre – that there’s so much variety across authors, books, film and TV. Just because you’re a vampire fan doesn’t mean you’re going to fall in love with every set of male fangs that cross the page or smiles seductively on screen. But what’s the fun in getting too analytical about it? I say let’s have some simple Friday night indulgence instead.

So, in the build up to the release of Blood Shadows, and to get us into the ‘Kane’ zone (11 days to go!), I thought I’d share my favourite mad, bad and dangerous-to-know vampire characters with you (when I say characters, I mean ‘characters’ – but yes, it does help that they look like that too). As far as tainted, tortured and intense go, here are my top four fanged boys from film and TV…

Oh, and you might want to pull up a chair, maybe make yourself a coffee and lock yourself in a nice quiet dark room – and you’ll need the sound turned up if you want to enjoy the full effect of the footage!

(WARNING – some people might be offended by the content that follows)

Coming in at a very admirable fourth place:

Michael (The Lost Boys)

My first vampire crush, so I had to include him! In fact I have a crush on this entire film, so went with the slightly longer video footage than planned (4 mins). If you don’t know which one Michael is (shame on you!), I’ll leave you to work it out.

Just losing out on second place but still taking the enviable third place:

Damon (TVD)

Another 4 minute clip, but what true Damon fan is going to complain? Okay, it’s a little over indulgent, but you don’t have to watch it all… (yeah, right…)

In second place:

Deacon (Blade)

Oh, yes. That’s all I’ll say – yes. Less than two minutes of footage, but an utterly perfect two minutes all the same.

In the very well-deserved first place:

Mitchell (Being Human UK)

My absolute favourite vampire of all times. It helps that he’s played by the utterly hypnotic Aidan Turner (have you ever heard that guy speak? Sheesh…) As far as mad, bad and dangerous-to-know goes, well, you’ve got to love him. Just under three minutes in total… I might need to replay.

Thanks for indulging with me. If you’ve got a favourite vampire of your own, I’d love to hear who! It’s always fun to compare notes on my favourite topic. If not, I’ll just keep watching these clips over and over and over again. I won’t feel lonely. Not at all.

Feast your eyes on these bad boys (before the feast on you). Love the irony of the ‘Pre-paid funeral’ ads that ran simultaneously with each clip.

Lindsay J. Pryor

LOL! Hilarious! I don’t get ads when I press play my end. Hope you can get rid of the pesky things, even if they are so beautifully and perfectly ironic. 😉

Aimee Duffy

Jesus, Damon is third? THIRD? But okay, Mitchell is a worthy first. Seriously though LiPry. Get Damon bumped up! xxx

Lindsay J. Pryor

Now, now, Aimee – I know what a fan of Damon you are, but they’re listed according to how mad, bad and dangerous-to-know they are and we all know what a big softie Damon is under all that bravado. It’s why we love him, right? But yay that you agree with Mitchell! 🙂 xxx

Michelle Smart

Funnily enough, have Mummy Calls: Beauty Has Her Way playing on iTunes as I type! Michael all the way – love, love, love Lost Boys xxx

Lindsay J. Pryor

How cool is that? Perfect timing! Such a brilliant soundtrack. I’ve played it to death over the years. And another Michael fan – clearly a lady of impeccable taste. xxx

Aimee Duffy

Okay *takes deep breath* I’ll agree-reluctantly 🙂 I’ll need to download that soundtrack.

Guilty confession: I’ve never seen Lost Boys!

xxx

Lindsay J. Pryor

You’ve never seen The Lost Boys?? Oh my goodness! How is that possible? Aimee, it’s an amazing film. You must watch it. If you lived anywhere near me, I’d run over to you with it in my hands right now. First Ghostbusters, now The Lost Boys – I need to educate you big time! 😉 xxx

Tima Maria Lacoba

What a fun afternoon I had watching those clips! Eye candy as well as fang fun, Linds! I love all four, but my all time favourite is one you haven’t mentioned – well two actually. There’s Henry Richmond from Blood Ties and Mick St John from Moonlight. The last one’s an Aussie honey!!!

Lindsay J. Pryor

I had a fun evening researching them, Tima. 😉 I’m glad you approve of the four I chose, but I know what you mean – there were others I could have mentioned (and I love your loyalty to your Aussie boys!) but I had to keep it to the baddest. So when are you going to do your top 4?? 🙂

Charlotte

I would have to add Hal from Being Human, though agree Mitchell was a hard act to follow!

Lindsay J. Pryor

Hal most certainly crossed my mind, Charlotte. In my eyes, he’s not quite got that Mitchell edge though. Give time – I’ve no doubt we’ll see some flourishing in the next series. PLEASE let there be a next series!

Fiona Chapman

Lol I’m with Aimee as a true Damon fan – never has a vampire pressed my buttons quite like this one. I would say it has something to do with Ian Somerhalder, but having started watching Lost on Netflix, his character is – at the moment – a bit fluffy compared to Damon.

I can only say this due to the fact I am not familiar with Deacon (it’s been a long time since watching Blade) and I have just a vague recollection of Mitchell, as I’m ashamed to say I didn’t get the opportunity to get ‘sucked’ in to watching Being Human (although I enjoyed the first couple of episodes I did see). On that note… Will just check Netflix to see if it’s available 🙂
Otherwise at the moment it’s Damon all the way!
Can’t wait go get to know Kane though 🙂

Thanks for the clips, should keep me going til Monday!!

Lindsay J. Pryor

Ooo – you Damon fans are hard to break! 😉 If I had a different rating scheme, he very probably would have featured higher, but locked in a room together I really don’t think even Damon would stand much of a chance with Mitchell. Oh yes – you must watch Being Human again if you only ever caught a couple of episodes. Such a top-notch show. Deacon Frost is just dangerously yummy and, again, Blade is such an amazing film. I guess there’s a little bit of all four of these vamps in Kane.

Apparently Monday’s upcoming episode of TVD is brilliant. I’ll be there! 🙂

Tracey Rogers

Thanks for the treat! Approve muchly! Ah will always have a soft spot for Michael, my first vamp crush. Think Damon is my number one at the moment though. Can I add Eric from True Blood into the mix as well. After all there’s no such thing as too many vamps is there??
Just going to have another look to make sure I have my ratings right 😉

Lindsay J. Pryor

It was my pleasure, Tracey! So Michael was your first vamp crush too? 🙂 Damon is seeming to be a VERY popular number one choice. Those clips are priceless though, aren’t they? Hats off to whoever compiled it. I agree: there’s no such a thing as too many vamps, so you can throw Eric in too by all means. Unfortunately, he does nothing for me (not sure why) but this is an open forum! Hmm, as it’s time for a break, I might go and have another look too…;-)

CC MacKenzie

I vote of Aiden. Have you guys seen his pic on the poster for The Hobbit? It sizzles, it smokes, it smoulders. He’s seriously hot. Love it.

Lindsay J. Pryor

Yay!!! Will check out The Hobbit poster now. It had better be online! Itching to see the film. Sizzles, smokes, smoulders, seriously hot – yep, that just about sums Aidan up. Beautifully said, Christine.

CC MacKenzie

Should be I vote FOR Aiden. Sheesh.

Lindsay J. Pryor

Ah, I knew what you meant. 😉

Jane Hunt

Have to agree with you Mitchell certainly gets my vote although I am an ardent Damon fan too. Tracey’s right though Eric from True Blood really needs a mention he is seriously hot and dangerous.

Lindsay J. Pryor

Hi Jane! Hmm, I might have to buckle a little here. I can see what you and Tracey are saying about Eric as far as dangerous goes. He’s not quite in the same league as Mitchell and Deacon, so whether he takes third place (replacing Damon) or fourth, I can’t decide.
